Welcome!

Hey there, welcome to the site – we’re so glad you stopped by!

Our training for the trip is well underway, and although I can’t speak for Katie, I think it’s coming along quite nicely. Katie’s mom, an Iron Woman athlete, advised us that first and foremost, what we needed to do was build up a ‘bum callus’, so that’s what we’ve been focusing on: calluses and endurance. Having opted not to focus on speed or performance type training, we might not be the fastest bicycle tourists out there, but we’ll get our callused bums there eventually. Turtle and the hare, anyone?

Katie and I have been talking about this bike trip for a couple years now, although we originally came up with the idea independently of each other, each with our own groups of friends. However, it’s a pretty big commitment, and so as you would expect, most of our original team members have had to bow out. But not to worry, we’re confident that they’ll support us – be with us in spirit and all that – and we’re hoping they’ll also support the Children’s Wish Foundation, which is really what this is all about. And we’ve also been able to recruit a team member – Jen Mannik, a friend from high school and organizer/website designer/manager extraordinaire. We’re so glad that Jen’s agreed to help us out with our trip and fundraising.

We’ll try to post updates on a weekly-ish basis as we prepare for the trip, and then more regularly after we get started. We’ll do our best to share the highlights of our trip with you – photos, stories, shout-outs and that kind of thing. Thanks for reading, and we hope you’ll consider supporting our ride by donating to Children’s Wish!
